Zwinger von der Dornburg

Take the tour
Dornburg Tour
2004
brings us to the new house.... and more kennels to build.
The house is situated on 4.83 acres, approx 200ft from the
road with nice landscaping and a circle drive. Pipe and cable border the
road and I have replaced the barbed wire fence along the sides with 4 x 4 inch
wire fencing.
The rear of the property is thick with oak trees, brush and
some interesting creek beds that fill with water when it rains. The soil
is sandy and is a nice change from the old place.
While the tree and brush clearing continues, I had three
kennels built behind the shop building. The kennel floors are of treated
2" x 6" lumber and the kennel panels were ordered from Behlen Country
through Tractor Supply. They are galvanized panels that are heavy duty,
welded horse panels to a nice round pipe frame. So far they are working
well.
Because the back of the property was not yet fenced, I needed a
place to keep the dogs safe and warm in winter. I began building a row
of kennel boxes where three of the boxes open out into the three kennels and the
rest open into the shop building.

Here is a picture of eight of the twelve
boxes that are completed.
The end box opens out into the 10' x 10'
kennel on the back of the shop.

Here's my friend coming in from the
outside kennel.
This end box has one inside wall removed, making it
twice the size
and accessible from the inside as well. |
| Early in 2005, the fence work was finished
and brush clearing in the back 3 acres was started. While my friends
worked out back, I created a single kennel in the retaining wall behind
the house. This is a great place for a dog to relax. |

In Summer of 2005, I created two large dogs
yards with adjoining kennels. One sits to the north of the shop
building and the other to the east and behind the house. Both are
wonderful, safe relaxing places for the dogs. In
2006, I added two large dog yards to the north side of the property. I
plan to have some fill dirt/sand brought in because of the erosion that
occurred earlier in 2007 from the flooding. Also all
of the kennels and yards now have galvanized automatic waterers for the
dogs. Very easy to keep clean and maintain, plus no worry about the
dogs running out of water. |
| In Sept 2007, I decided that the dogs needed
more inside space so I took out the box/crate system and replaced them with
what I call dog condos. It gave me much needed storage between the
kennels. I have not quite finished the trim and the closet doors but
the dogs love their inside spaces. |
